Some of the earliest information about stone-slate use is contained in two series of reports on the living conditions, agriculture, natural history  and economic activity of counties and districts. Known as the General Views of Agriculture and the Statistical Accounts they can often be found in your county library or archives. The following list is derived from the excellent British Library OPAC on-line search facility. The complete listing is included here but not all will include stone-slates. An extensive collection is also held at the Museum of Country Life on the campus of Reading University. (Note: the British Library is open to researchers by application for a reader's ticket but it is not a 'public library'.) British Library roof
