The one day meeting debated the problems of trying to conserve historic roofs in the face of a decline in the stone slate manufacturing industry over the last 100 years.

Terry Hughes, who has carried out the research into the status of stone slate manufacturing for English Heritage, initially in the South Pennines and subsequently for the whole of England, presented some aspects of the work, some outcomes and issues still to be tackled.
