HORSHAM STONE ROOFING
There are two systems of roofing with Horsham stone-slates, the ‘normal’ double lap system and single lapping which is unique to Horsham stone roofs.  Problems have arisen, including roof failure due to leakage, because of uncertainty about the precise details of each system and confusion between the two.  Issues include the appropriate head and side laps and the mortar mixes used for bedding and at abutments etc.  Additionally, with the introduction of insulation into roof structures and the consequent need for ventilation, the use of mortar bedding needs to be carefully handled.
To try to solve these problems a group of local roofing contractors, architects, surveyors, conservation officers and others have thrashed out the issues and a guide has been written which can be downloaded as an Acrobat document. It has been designed to print two sided on A3 paper and folded to A4. If you can't do this it will print as A4. The file size is about 2MB so be patient.
