Ian West's Geology Site
www.soton.ac.uk/~imw/

This is a large directory of Internet links on geology and earth science topics. Major sections of geology such as fossils and palaeontology, minerals and mineralogy, stratigraphy, and sedimentology are in some of the separate 83 Web Pages which form the directory. There is a good section on Purbeck and Portland. There are also geology field trip guides, particularly to classic coastal sections on the Dorset coast of southern England. Localities include the beautiful cliffs around Lulworth Cove, with an end-Jurassic Fossil Forest nearby, and the famous Jurassic ichthyosaur and ammonite locality of Lyme Regis. In addition there are also geological bibliographies, mostly on southern England.
Slate Valley Museum
www.slatevalleymuseum.org

This is a site is about real slates in New York and Vermont so strictly it doesn't belong here. But it is so good and brings back happy memories of when I worked at Hilltop Slate so how could I resist.

Vernacular buildings are smaller traditional buildings, which use local materials and methods. The buildings themselves are just one part of the story. Who built it and why? What documentation is available? Was it a common type or highly unusual? How has it been altered over the years?
